BURAIR BIN KHUZAIR HAMDANI

Burair was one of the faithful
companions of Imam Hussain (A.S) who was martyred in Kerbala. He was a
pious man, a recieter of the Holy Quran and a renowbed warrior from Koofa.
He belonged to the tribe of 'Hamdan'. He was known as 'Sayyed-ul-Qurra'
(i.e) 'The leader of the recieters'. He used to reciet the Holy Quran in
the mosque of Koofa. Burair was an important personality of the tribe of
Hamdan and was also regarded with respect in Koofa. He did his best to
stop Umar-e-Sa'ad from helping Bani Umayya but to no avail. In 60 A.H,Burair
reached Mecca and joined the Holy Imam (A.S) and came to Kerbala with him.
On the day of 9th Moharram, he was happily joking with Abdur Rehman bin
Abd Rabbah as he was going to be martyred. On the night of Aashoora, he
reiterated his support to the Holy Imam (A.S) and made a speech at that
occasion.On the day of Aashoora, he talked to the enemy a number of times
and made a speech to stop them from committing the henious crime. He went
to the battlefield after Hur and got martyred.
